I was expecting the worst after the dreadful slog that was It's a Wonderful Life but this is a fucking AMAZING alt-rock Christmas album! Featuring special guests the dBs!!! Opener “Christmas Time” has Stamey singing with bandmate Peter Holsapple, which is rad. I'm not sure if this is before or after they broke up. I mean, the record has some cheesy elements, like “The Only Law that Santa Claus Understood” often falls into cheesy, thin 80s pop, but mostly this is kind of a joy. Although a few tracks, like “Sha La La” are fucking atrocious. Actually, the whole B-side is quite a slog, and really there are only two or three good songs on the whole record. I think I was just excited that this was so much better than It's a Wonderful Life. The second half doesn't even sound like a Christmas record despite various mentions of Santa Claus.
