The Ettes – Look at Life Again Soon
Take Root Records, 2008
Acquired: Love Garden Blowout Location, New, 2009
Price: $1 (originally $14)
Female fronted garagey punk that's a little to clean sounding to be vital or important or even very good for that matter. Perhaps the biggest problem is that late album jam “You Can't Do That To Me” seems completely out of place with the rest of the album. Where those songs all kind of sound the same, this song has a sexy, groovy kind of swagger to it. There's just the slightest hint to twang in the singer's voice due to the Ettes being from Nashville, and it's kind of nice. Overall, though, this album is pretty forgettable and I can't see myself revisiting it anytime soon. I remember it doing really well in rotation (twice) and I'm surprised the label never sent me a free vinyl copy as much as they called about it. Oh man, and other reasons to quit reading all music for anything but discography information: “The Ettes are as good as modern garage rock gets.” Hmm, yeahhhhhh.
But this song was pretty good too though:
